10.01.2016 - Under-12s in Heiden

The first weekend in January saw an Under-12 Norwich City Academy squad travel to Heiden in Germany for their now traditional participation in the Euro-Cup International Indoor Tournament.

City’s group games were played on the Friday evening. Two wins in the first two games against De Graafschap from Holland (3-0) and Osnabrück (4-0) saw hopes rise that the Canaries could reach the quarter-finals with a top-two finish in the group.

Norwich then went on to lose an open game against RW Essen (5-3) and a tight match against Fortuna Düsseldorf (2-1) to put an end to those hopes. A disappointing 3-0 defeat against FC Bocholt saw City finish fourth in the group and playing for places 13 to 16 in Sunday’s play-offs.

With Saturday a free day, two friendlies against Bocholt and Essen were organised on the outdoor synthetic pitch in Heiden, with the Canaries winning one and losing the other.

Three draws on Sunday saw Norwich finish the tournament in 15th place with all the players going through an excellent learning experience against some good opposition abroad.
