Charlton Athletic, with an outside chance of the FA Premier Academy League Group A Title, did their chances no harm with a well-deserved victory over a battling Norwich side who refused to lie down. There were warning signals early on, especially after the hosts had rattled in ten goals without reply against MK Dons a fortnight ago.
Charlton took the game to Norwich from the first whistle and Wootton was forced to save on just three minutes from Fox following a free kick.
On twelve minutes Sho-Silva got behind the Norwich defence only to shoot wide of a post.
On twenty seven minutes Charlton broke the deadlock when Azeez got clear and slid the ball home into the net past Wootton.
Norwich forced their first corner of the game just after the half hour. Clunan took it but Jacob Murphy headed over.
On thirty six minutes Norwich had their best opening of the match. They moved forward with Loza unleashing a powerful drive from around thirty yards out which Phillips was glad to get his hands on.
Two minutes later Wootton came to Norwich’s rescue, saving with both legs after a right wing cross from Sho-Silva found Azeez.
The second half was minutes old when Norwich were awarded a free kick from well outside the penalty area.
Clunan swung the ball into the Charlton penalty area and as the ball fell loose McFadden pounced and tucked the ball past Phillips to equalise for Norwich.
As Charlton continued to up the momentum of the match, Azeez headed over from six yards out following a free kick by Fox.
On fifty six minutes, Charlton swiftly attacked from the right, and an unlucky deflection from a Norwich defender sent the Canaries behind again.
Clunan and McGeehan were in the thick of the action in midfield attempting to combat the forays of Charlton‘s attacking play, but the Canaries were again undone as Wootton did well initially to keep out a fierce effort, only for Azeez to follow up and make it 3-1.
On sixty three minutes, Norwich came forward as Josh Murphy weaved his way through from the right and fired in a low drive which Phillips did well to save.
Wootton was then called upon again, this time producing a splendid one handed save from Palmer.
Then, as two players, one from each side, lay on the turf, the referee allowed play to continue only for Norwich to concede a penalty.
Pigott took the penalty kick firmly, and Wootton diving to his left made more than a decent save palming the ball away. However the danger was not cleared as the ball was delivered back into the Norwich penalty area and Sho-Silva was at hand at the far post to send a downward header inside the post and finally seal the points.
