NorwichCity’s Academy side got their 2011/2012 campaign off to an incredible start when they dominated their opening game of the season, banging five past Middlesbrough.
Ricky Martin’s young guns outshone their north east visitors going two up in the first six minutes and then added a further two inside the first six minutes of the second half before they completed their nap hand late in the game.
Both sides joined the Colney regulars observing a minutes silence before the game after second year scholar Jason Dobbs lost his mother Olive during the week. Everyone here at FONCY is thinking of Jason and his family at this sad time.
It took the Canaries just sixty seconds to open their account when Reece Hall-Johnson crashed a shot into the net beyond the reach of James Montgomery in the Boro goal.
Fellow first year scholar Josh Murphy doubled the Canaries advantage when he raced onto a through ball to round the keeper and calmly slot the ball home, the goal coming on six minutes.
The visitors had no answer to a rampant Norwich and they might have made it three but Jamar Loza saw his shot crash into the side netting, while moments later the same player saw a shot go just wide of the target.
Captain Sam Kelly saw an effort saved while the very lively Josh Murphy twice went close in the dying moments of a great first half for City.
Boro were once again caught napping at the start of the second half with Loza finding the net after just one minute of the restart, while just five minutes later Loza scored his second and City’s fourth from a Murphy cross as City threatened to run riot.
The visitor’s manager made two changes in an attempt stop the rot as Martin made his first change as Josh Murphy made way for twin brother Jacob.
The game settled down but Boro rarely threatened Remi Matthews goal, indeed it was Norwich who added to the score when substitute Murphy looped the ball over the advancing Boro keeper.
